Police in a Bergen County town are warning residents to beware of a fake utility worker scam.

Glen Rock police say that two men allegedly posing as utility workers walked their way into a home in town.

The resident told police that the men claimed that they needed to check her water pressure and offered her a cash rebate. But police say that she became suspicious when they needed change for a $100 bill.

“Never let somebody inside your house that you're not expecting, that you're unsure of who they are, because there are people that are looking to take advantage of homeowners and elderly people,” says Glen Rock Police Sgt. Michael Trover.

Utility companies will typically tell police if their workers will be going door to door.

The homeowner told police that the two men left in a dark gray or black newer-model GMC Denali pickup truck with a large object hanging out of the tailgate.

The homeowner says that nothing was stolen.
