FAIRFIELD -

Republican state Rep. Brenda Kupchick announced Sunday that she's running for Fairfield first selectman this fall against Democrat Mike Tetreau.

Kupchick spoke at the Fairfield Museum, saying that as Fairfield continues to grow and change, its leadership needs to do the same.

Kupchick is a local small business owner who has served on the town's RTM and Board of Education.

Kupchick would be the town's second female first selectman. Jacky Durrell served from 1983 to 1993.

Kupchick says Durrell was an inspiration to her.
