Central High School students were surprised Wednesday when their classroom was transformed into a top secret STEM lab thanks to Lockheed Martin. 

Students were tasked with building a 3-D aircraft model intended to be flown to the site of a humanitarian crisis. 

Mike Ambrose, VP of engineering at Sikorsky Aircraft, and Program Manager Miguel Lopez both lead the workshop.

Both Ambrose and Miguel are Central High School alumni. 

They say it's a commitment Lockheed knows it needs to make early in a students' life for them to become passionate in STEM-related fields.  

The workshop is part of the company’s STEM Scholarship program, which will award a $10,000 annual scholarship to 200 recipients each year.

Lockheed Martin says it plans to hire 50,000 employees in the next 15 years and wants hires to come from Connecticut.
