Police: Bridgeport man shot 6 times in targeted attack
A Bridgeport man sitting inside a car was shot six times in a targeted attack late Thursday evening while a woman and a baby were in the back seat, police say.
The shooting happened at the corner of Harvard Street and Wheeler Avenue just before midnight.
The victim's mom said her son, 31-year-old Anthony Rodriguez, is fighting for his life at Bridgeport Hospital. The woman and baby were not injured.
Police say a total of 17 shots were fired in what they believe was a targeted attack.
"The individual who opened fire on this vehicle, it shows that he had no conscience whatsoever," says Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez. "There was somebody in the back seat of this vehicle with a baby, and he still opened fire on the vehicle."
Authorities say the shooter ran away from the scene toward Main Street.
Police were back at the scene today collecting evidence and gathering video from home security cameras, which they hope will show the attack on Rodriguez.
Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to call the Bridgeport Police Tip Line at 203-576-TIPS.
