Community members lend support to families displaced by Torrington fire

TORRINGTON -

Community members are lending support to the families impacted by a three-alarm fire in Torrington on Friday night.

Fire officials says the fire broke out in the end unit at the Woodland Hills Apartments. The fire displaced eight families.

The families are now turning to the community for support. They have been reaching out to their local Community Health and Wellness Center, which has provided clothes, food and funds to help them get back on their feet.

"They don't want to talk about the actual fire, I think it's very devastating for them," says Sarah Toomey, of Community Health and Wellness Center. "They're very overwhelmed and grateful for everything the community is doing for them."

Tasha Laviera, who also works at the center says, "It’s just overwhelming how everybody's coming together so quickly."

The biggest need is personal care items and gift cards for local stores. Donations are being accepted through Friday.
