BRIDGEPORT -

Bridgeport honored the city's 911 dispatchers at the Emergency Communications and Operations Center on Thursday.

Mayor Joe Ganim, who was at the event, issued a proclamation for the men and women who help callers during emergencies and dispatch first
responders to their location.

The event is part of National Telecommunicators Week.

The event began in 1981 as a way thank those who dedicate their lives to public service.
