HARTFORD -

Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy discussed the impact of gun violence Tuesday.

A news conference was held on Capitol Hill near a new art installation about gun violence deaths called "A Week in America."

Parkland, Florida, students and organizers of March For Our Lives were also at the conference.

Legislators talked about the impact of the recent suicides of two Parkland survivors and a parent whose child was killed in the Sandy Hook shooting.

Lawmakers also called for universal background checks for gun purchases.

The conference comes less than a week after the attack at the San Diego synagogue.
