More people have come forward with complaints about a Bridgeport veterinarian who is charged with animal cruelty.
Dr. Amr Wasfi is out on bond and was back to work Monday at Black Rock Animal Hospital on Fairfield Avenue.
Wasfi's arrest warrant shows the investigation into him began in December with a complaint from an employee who alleged animal abuse during surgery on a kitten.
She told police she saw Wasfi "raise his hand and strike the kitten with such force that the kitten came free from restraints and its intestines popped out of the incision."
The next complaint came from Jose Valentin, who brought his pit bull to Wasfi for a limp. Police say their investigation found Wasfi misrepresented the dog's condition to his owner and performed unnecessary surgery on the animal, almost killing him. Valentin says he got his dog back bloody, scarred and 22 pounds lighter.
The Connecticut Board of Veterinary Medicine had revoked Wasfi's license in 1996, finding him guilty of unskillfulness toward an animal. He later started practicing again. It is up to the state board to decide whether Wasfi will lose his license again.
"We just want the public to be aware that if they were considering bringing their animals here, just to understand some of the criminal charges we uncovered here," says Police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald.
Wasfi is set to be arraigned Wednesday.
Wafsi told News 12 his attorney told him not to make any comments on the case.
News 12 was at the clinic Monday and did not see anyone bring animals in.
