STAMFORD -

A Stamford man charged in a crash that sent a pedestrian to the hospital is out on bond Monday night.

Police say 50-year-old Carlos Campo hit the pedestrian near Van Buskirk Avenue, put the victim in his car and later left him on Seaside Avenue.

Witnesses say someone driving a dark-colored BMW was speeding before driving over the sidewalk and into the pedestrian. They say the pedestrian was then thrown into the street.

An officer says they noticed a dark-colored BMW on East Main Street with front end damage, and the cellphone of the victim still stuck between the windshield and the hood.

Officials say Campo admitted to hitting the pedestrian and failed sobriety tests. They say his BAC was .203, well above the legal limit. Campo is facing multiple charges including assault in the second degree.

The victim has serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
