Attorney General William Tong held a news conference on Monday to discuss what he calls the largest corporate cartel in American history -- generic drug companies working together to fix prices and rig the market.

Tong, who appeared on CBS' "60 Minutes" Sunday night, says that emails, phone records and text messages gathered throughout an investigation launched over five years ago prove generic drugmakers conspired to make consumers pay more for medication.

On Friday, Connecticut and more than 40 states filed a lawsuit accusing the biggest generic drugmakers in the country of fixing prices. The generic drug companies deny all accusations.

 

News 12 has reached out to a number of the pharma companies included in the lawsuit for comment and has not yet heard back.
