School budgets passed in all 124 Long Island districts except one: Wyandanch.
The proposed $78 million spending plan came with a 40% school tax hike.
Nathan Jackson, a district spokesperson, told News 12 before Wednesday's school board meeting that extracurricular activities, sports teams and teachers may have to get cut.
During the meeting, the back and forth between board members and residents was so contentious at times that the board president threatened to clear the room and adjourn the meeting.
The superintendent says some measures they are looking into include outsourcing security and transportation, and not filling open positions.
Board members say they need time and input from the community to make the best fiscal decisions for a realistic budget. But some residents say they are frustrated and feel their time was wasted by coming to the meeting.
The debate will continue at the next school board meeting, set for Wednesday, May 29.
