A Lindenhurst man accused of driving high and killing two people in a car crash has pleaded guilty.
David O'Brien, 19, stoically walked into Riverhead court Friday morning. Minutes later, he pleaded guilty to 17 counts of vehicular homicide, assault, driving while impaired by drugs and other charges.
The double fatal crash happened on Oct. 9, 2017. Prosecutors say O'Brien crashed his Ford Mustang into a tree on North Wellwood Avenue while high on marijuana and Xanax. Two of his friends in the car, 16-year-old Joseph Galdorisi and 24-year-old Maggie Miller, were killed.
The judge admonished O'Brien Friday after prosecutors say he posted photos on social media following the crash that showed possible drug paraphernalia. The judge told him, "It's in your best interest to stay off the internet with stupid crap."
O'Brien faces four to 12 years in prison with the guilty plea. He could have faced eight to 25 years. Anthony Galdorisi, the father one of the victims, says he wanted more prison time.
O'Brien remains free on $75,000 bail. He'll be sentenced in July.
