NEWTOWN -

Workers at the Newtown Landfill found an artillery shell at the transfer station.

The state police bomb squad was called in and determined it was a "training anti-tank round" that did not contain any gun powder.

It is not known how long the shell was there or who may have left it there.

The station was closed for about an hour until police could take it away.
