Swimmer last seen in Hudson River confirmed dead by family

A marathon swimmer who went missing in the Hudson River has died, according to his family.
Charles Van Der Horst,  67, was competing in the 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim when another competitor saw him go underwater.
This happened during the sixth stage of the week-long competition, which had athletes swim 15.7 miles from the Tappan Zee Bridge to the George Washington Bridge.
The swimmer never resurfaced and the Coast Guard and other agencies searched the Hudson River for hours until late Friday night.
The North Carolina native's body has not been found.
