'It was a team effort': Instructor helps disabled aircraft land safely

A local pilot almost didn't touch down Wednesday after having engine trouble, but an instructor guided him to safety.
Alexander Wolf says he heard through a radio that the pilot was in trouble because he was unable to maintain altitude. He quickly went up into the sky to help and gently guided the pilot, giving him tips and suggestions to allow him to land safely at Sikorsky Airport.
"I heard the reluctance of the pilot to declare an emergency and pretty much knew he was in trouble at that point," says Wolf.
When asked if he potentially saved the man's life, Wolf remained humble.
"It was a team effort between experienced controllers, the pilot in the aircraft, he was the one driving, all I was doing was making suggestions to make it the most successful outcome," says Wolf.
Wolf brought News 12 along in his plane to show what he was seeing during the high-intensity situation.
The pilot was not injured.
