Police seek surveillance video of shooting that killed woman in home

BRIDGEPORT -

Bridgeport police are renewing their call for the public's help in solving a shooting that killed a woman in her own home.

Police say Sujata Lee Edwards, 36, was on the second floor of her house in the 600 block of Williams Street when the gunfire broke out on Feb. 5.  She was shot while looking outside to see if her child had gotten safely into a car.  The family says the victim and everybody else in the house was targeted by a group of teens following an argument earlier in the evening.

Investigators at the Bridgeport Police Department hope somebody may have archived surveillance video from the date and might now be willing to share crucial evidence they don't know they have.

"We're looking for video that has been archived from Feb. 5 of this year, 2019, somewhere between 6 o'clock in the evening to 9 o'clock in the evening," says Police Chief AJ Perez. "I think that could be of tremendous help in the investigation. We're still out there, we're still looking for more video."

News 12 Connecticut spoke today with the mother of Edwards, who said she will put her faith in God when it comes to finding her daughter's killer. Llesa O'Connor, 65, moved to another state following the shooting, saying she feared for her life knowing the shooter was still at large. She told News 12 by phone today that it's been the worst five months of her life.

"We're not doing good. Every penny that we have is spent on moving and trying to relocate. We're not doing good, we're not," she said.

Anyone with information can contact police at 203-576-TIPS.
