People in Trumbull celebrate local Alyssa Naeher in World Cup
A celebration was held in Trumbull Sunday as one of Connecticut's own shined in the Women's World Cup with Team USA.
Everyone at the watch party was excited to cheer on someone from their hometown.
Stratford native Alyssa Naeher graduated from Christian Heritage High School and helped bring Team USA all the way to the Women's World Cup finals. Naeher was a standout soccer player during her time at school, becoming a three-time All-State selection.
Former students at the school say it's amazing to watch someone like them make it so far.
"It's super inspiring," says Sophia Mammana. "It just shows that you need hard work and determination and it doesn't matter where you started, but you can get where you want to go if you work hard."
Team USA beat the Netherlands with a final score of 2-0.
