Police: Levittown man struck pedestrian, fled scene

A Levittown man is accused of hitting a pedestrian with his car and leaving the scene.
It happened after 5 p.m. Friday on Hempstead Turnpike.
Police say John Roberts, 39, hit the 35-year-old man with his Dodge Ram pickup truck.
Investigators say Roberts briefly stopped to help the victim, but then he took off. Roberts eventually returned to the scene and was arrested.
He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
The pedestrian suffered serious injuries.
The intersection on Hempstead Turnpike has seen its share of serious crashes, including the death of an 18-year-old woman killed outside Ultra Gas Station in 2017. Just two weeks ago, a 13-year-old was fatally struck while crossing Hempstead Turnpike on his bike.
