Hartford on high-alert as immigrant raids are set to begin

HARTFORD -

Hartford residents are concerned ahead of possible immigration raids on Sunday.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers are expected to arrest thousands of undocumented immigrants who have already been issued final deportation orders.

The focus is on 10 cities nationwide and although Hartford is not on that list, people are still on high alert.

"I've met people who are very angry, I've met people who are very worried and it doesn't bring trust with our current administration," said State Rep. David Michel.

Michel says the country was built on immigrants and it's time to fight for them.

Groups rallied in communities throughout Connecticut to protest the detention of illegal immigrants this week.

President Donald Trump says ICE agents are focused on criminals.

Michel says innocent immigrants could be collateral damage and that some who requested asylum may have missed their court order.

The state representative is passing out flyers from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) that teach people their rights if ICE agents show up at their door.

"As a state, we'll stand for immigrants," Michel says. "I'll stand for immigrants, I am an immigrant."
