BRIDGEPORT -

An apartment fire in Bridgeport Sunday afternoon killed a family’s two cats.

The fire occurred on Monroe Street in Black Rock.

Officials say the three-story building was evacuated after a fire broke out on the second-floor.

Residents say thick smoke filled the hallways, but the fire department's quick response helped them get outside.

Officials say the Red Cross is helping to find at least one family temporary housing.
