Maximum Security gets chance at redemption in 52nd annual Haskell Invitational

The 52nd Haskell Invitational will be held at Monmouth Park this weekend, and for racehorse Maximum Security it is a chance at redemption.
Maximum Security was disqualified at this year’s Kentucky Derby after crossing the finish line due to interference. He has not won a race since.
At Wednesday’s pole positioning drawing, Maximum Security pulled position No. 7.
“Eerie because he was No. 7 in the Florida Derby and he was No. 7 in the Kentucky Derby and now I’m No. 7 in the Haskell, so I kind of got goosebumps to tell you the truth,” says trainer Jason Servis.
The Haskell race will also feature Belmont Stakes third-place finisher Joevia, who will start from the second position.
“We have to come up with a top effort,” says trainer Greg Sacco. “He ran great in the Belmont and he's an improving colt. He'll have to step it up again and we hope he does on Saturday.”
The Haskell Invitational is a summer staple at the Jersey Shore. Temperatures this weekend are expected to be in the upper-90s.
“When weather creeps up to a 110-index [the horses] can get dehydrated and it can become a factor,” Sacco says. “Some horses don't fair well. We're hoping that Joevia can handle the heat.”
Post time for the race is Saturday at 5:47 p.m.
