A man who was awaiting trial on charges of killing his ex-wife was found dead inside a storage container on his son's property, police say.

James Taylor, 75, who was charged in the murder of his wife, was found dead inside a metal container located at his son's home on Bronson Road in Southport on Tuesday. Officials believe it appeared to be a suicide.

Police say they were notified of several low battery alarms going off on Taylor's GPS tracker around 5:15 p.m. Police initially believed Taylor may have barricaded himself inside a storage container on the property. Taylor had been living with his son while on house arrest after posting a $2 million bond in May.  

While officers were on scene, they reported hearing Taylor's cell phone ring inside the storage container that was locked from the inside, indicating that someone would have to be in there to lock it.

A SWAT team surrounded the home for four hours and tried to make contact with Taylor. The Stamford Police Department's bomb squad was called in to assist, and used robots to search inside the container, before police entered and discovered Taylor's body. 

Police say no one was inside the home.

Taylor was facing charges after police say he broke into his stepson's Catamount Road home in Fairfield and fatally shot his ex-wife, Catherine Taylor, 70 on Feb.

Taylor was accused of trying to shoot his stepson who made the discovery but was restrained by the man and later arrested. 

A state medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine his exact cause of death.
