New Haven Police captain recovering after shooting; suspect still at large

A New Haven police captain is in recovery Wednesday after being shot and the suspected gunman is still at large.

The shooting happened Monday night on Dixwell Avenue.

Police say 24-year veteran Capt. Anthony Duff was off-duty when he responded to reports of shots fired

Duff was shot multiple times shortly after he got there.

Police swarmed the neighborhood throughout the night but did not make an arrest

The police department is hailing Duff a hero.

Police have not released the name of the man who was fatally shot.
