Police have identified a man who was fatally shot by a suspect as an off-duty police captain attempted to intervene but was also shot, police say.
Troy Clark, 46, was shot and killed Monday, according to police.
Capt. Anthony Duff was off-duty when he responded to reports of shots fired on Dixwell Avenue. He was shot multiple times.
Four sergeants and officers with the New Haven Police Department are being praised for their actions after a shooting left one of their own injured.
When the officers first arrived on scene, they didn't realize it was their captain. They immediately sprang into action. An officer applied a tourniquet on Duff's left arm, which helped save his life. The New Haven police chief hailed them as heroes.
Police are still searching for the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
Duff is expected to make a full recovery.
