Video shows man dangling from window as Bridgeport home burns

Posted: Updated:

A cellphone video shows a man dangling from a window as a two-alarm fire burned inside at a multifamily home in Bridgeport.

The fire happened Wednesday at 1042 Iranistan Ave. at 4:15 p.m.

The video shows Jimmie Jefferson dangling from the window as thick smoke billows out of the home. Jefferson tells News 12 he was about to jump, but Bridgeport firefighters showed up just in time to bring a ladder and rescue him.

At least three firefighters were transported to the hospital because they were overwhelmed with heat and smoke.

Video from the News 12 drone also shows fire shooting out of the top of the house. The blaze sent flames into the sky for at least an hour, and the second floor of the structure collapsed.

According to the fire chief, firefighters rescued some residents using ladders. It was not immediately clear how many people lived in the building.
