Capt. Anthony Duff, of the New Haven Police Department, was discharged from the hospital Thursday, just over a week after being shot several times.
Hundreds of well-wishers– including officers from New Haven, state police and other departments – lined the entrance of Yale New Haven Hospital to salute Duff as he left.
News 12 reported that Duff was shot in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Henry Street after he found two men involved in a shooting on the night of Aug. 12. One man, identified as Troy Clark, died in the shooting.
Duff was off-duty at the time and was in the area when he heard a report of shots fired through ShotSpotter. Officials said he called for backup, saying he was shot.
Sgt. Shayna Kendall, who swiftly got Duff into an ambulance after the incident, called his recovery “amazing.”
"To see Capt. Duff walking on his own after seeing him nearly lose his life, it's just amazing,” he said.
Duff, who was shot three times – once in the chest – was escorted by a motorcade on his way home, where he will continue his recovery.
The suspect is still at large. Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call New Haven police.
