Local airports full of passengers fleeing Hurricane Dorian

As the storm churns toward the Florida coast, passengers at Westchester County Airport were happy to be out of danger.

Roberta Strasburg just moved to Boca Raton, Florida last year. She says she decided to head out when she got a call from her grandson to “be careful” with the storm.

Most fliers say that so far, they’ve had little trouble fleeing the state.

Nick Cusumano from Harrison, New York, says his morning flight from Florida to back home was easy. “We went very early and it was empty,” he says.

Most major carriers have issued travel waivers to people with tickets to Florida. This waiver ensures plans can be changed without a fee.

These waivers cover every major airport in Florida as well as most the Caribbean.

Delta is also waiving fees for pets and baggage.
