Bridgeport woman says she was wrongly arrested for animal cruelty

Posted: Updated:

A Bridgeport woman says she was wrongly arrested on animal cruelty charges.

Stratford officials say they found two mastiffs who were emaciated, covered in urine and feces and left alone in a house on Burritt Avenue last week.

Officials say that house is at the center of eviction proceedings.

Wendi McManus told News 12 she was arrested Saturday in connection with the case, but is innocent.

McManus says the dogs were given to her as a gift, but due to her health issues, someone else had been caring for them.

She says the animals were emaciated because someone in the neighborhood had been deliberately poisoning them.

Police say the Health Department is investigating.
