Amazon and Roku's rivalry is going global. Both streaming services are expanding into Europe through partnerships with well-known European TV brands. Roku's partner is Chinese manufacturer Hisense. Amazon will build Fire TV into smart TVs in Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom. Fire TV counts about 27 million active users to Roku's 31 million in the U.S.
The McDonald’s drive-thru of the future might include an artificial intelligence voice assistant. The fast-food chain is buying Silicon Valley startup Apprente, which processes orders using AI. The acquisition is one of several tech buys by the franchise in a push to use technology to keep ahead of competitors. McDonald’s also hopes to roll out the tech to its in-store kiosks and even its mobile app.
Polaroid is back with a new way to turn your Instagram feed into physical photos. Find an image on your smartphone and the Polaroid Lab can then convert it - using chemicals - into an actual photo on instant film. The device will go on sale in October for $130.
