A suspect in the beating death of a man is behind bars while another is still at large, police say.
Jose Martinez, 40, is one of two people accused of beating 55-year-old Miguel Angel Lopez Garcia to death at Mambo Grocery in Bridgeport on May 19. Police say they have leads on the other suspect.
Surveillance video was used to identify the two suspects, according to police. They say the dispute was over owed money.
Lopez Garcia was born in Puerto Rico, according to his obituary.
Martinez is charged with first-degree manslaughter and is being held on $200,000 bond. He is due in court at the end of the month.
People who work at Mambo Grocery say they knew Lopez Garcia well, and that he was hanging around the store just before police say he was beaten with what appears to be a piece of wood.
"We're just happy that Mr. Martinez is in custody and he'll stand trial for his charges," said Bridgeport Police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald, "and hopefully bring some peace to the victim's family."
