Several meetings were held to discuss a scandal involving former town officials and contaminated soil in Fairfield as sites containing potentially contaminated soil undergo more tests.

There were two meetings Wednesday addressing the fallout from the contaminated soil scandal that resulted in three arrests.

One was held at Sacred Heart University where the public met with the prosecutor bringing the case against former Fairfield Superintendent of Public Works Scott Bartlett, former Fairfield Director of Public Works Joseph Michelangelo, and Julian Enterprises owner Jason Julian. They are facing larceny, forgery and illegal dumping charges.

Bartlett and Julian were in court Wednesday.

The second meeting was with the Board of Selectmen at Fairfield Town Hall. Several people who came to the meeting and the two other selectmen say First Selectman Mike Tetreau has not been transparent. Tetreau says he took appropriate steps to ensure the safety of his residence.

Police say hundreds of truckloads of contaminants were dumped at the town's Public Works site several years ago. That fill was used in fields and parks in Fairfield.

The soil then tested positive for lead, arsenic and asbestos by an environmental firm hired by the town.
