Campaign worker testifies in Bridgeport absentee ballot case

Posted: Updated:

Testimony continued Friday in the Bridgeport absentee ballot case as one of the people involved in passing out applications for ballots explained her side.

During testimony, Nilsa Heredia admitted that she recruited voters who were not qualified for absentee ballots. But she also said that at no time did she tell them who to vote for or actually fill out the ballots.

The case centers around last month's Democratic primary. Mayor Joe Ganim won the race following the count of absentee ballots. A group connected to his losing opponent, state Sen. Marilyn Moore, filed the lawsuit. The group is trying to get the entire Democratic primary tossed out because of absentee voter irregularities.

Attorneys for both sides squabbled over potential mistakes or oversight on how the votes were tabulated.
