Bikers are coming together in Bridgeport Sunday to help kids in need for this upcoming holiday season.

The 25th annual toy run is being held at Mickey's Community Restaurant on Maplewood Avenue.

The organizer and owner of the restaurant, John June, brings out bikers from all over the region to support the drive.

The bikers take an hourlong ride across Western Connecticut, then return to Mickey's, generating spirit and donations for the annual effort.

June was almost unable to attend the event this year. He was riding his motorcycle on Main Street a few weeks ago when he was sideswiped by a car.

Doctors say it was a miracle the 80-year-old survived being thrown from him bike. He walked away with only a few bumps and bruises.

June says that close call has given him a deeper appreciation for the generosity of this community.
Last year Mickey's Annual Toy Run raised $10,000 worth of presents and $2,000 in gift cards.

The presents are collected every year by Sister Theresa Tremblay, who distributes them to kids in hospitals recovering from serious illnesses.

Friends say it may have been the prayers of Tremblay that kept June safe when he had his accident.

June is encouraging the public to drop off gifts at his restaurant at 1018 Maplewood Ave. They will be passed out to kids in hospitals on Christmas.
