A Bridgeport barbershop gave free haircuts to veterans Wednesday.
Lugo's Barbershop teamed up with the city of Bridgeport's Department of Health and Social Services to offer the free haircuts to veterans at the Bridgeport Veteran Affairs support center.
Leonard Hunter says he served in the Army from 1967 to 1970. He came in to get a haircut, and he says it's nice to see veterans benefit from the city's services.
"First of all, to have these guys come here and cut our hair is great. Also, it's free and that's even greater and for me to see my fellow veterans come in here and utilize the service we have here at the Vet Center," Hunter says.
Larry Robinson is the coordinator for Connecticut's first veteran support center in Bridgeport. He helps the center run a one-stop shop for veterans' needs.
"It's hard to understand unless I walked in their shoes. And by sharing their shoes, I understand that sometimes the journey can be hard, but if you have veterans and fellow veterans and support from the community, you can make it," said Robinson.
