Report: Retired police officer accepts plea deal on charges of sexually assaulting teen

Posted: Updated:

The Connecticut Post reports a retired Trumbull police officer has accepted a plea deal in connection to the sexual assault of a teenager he met through the police department's explorer program.

The report says Michael Gonzalez made the plea under the Alford Doctrine, meaning he does not admit guilt but concedes the state has enough evidence to win a conviction.

It also says the plea calls for Gonzalez to receive probation, but he must also register as a sex offender.
