Supporters for the Bridgeport mayoral candidates are making a final campaign push as Election Day nears.
In a track recently released by the Mayor Joe Ganim team, 15-year-old Manny Raxx raps his support for the incumbent mayor. Johantz Wilson is the song's producer.
"Basically, it was an opportunity to put a record together to encourage young kids to vote," said Wilson. "Because usually you don't reach them in those channels."
With just a few days until voters head to the polls, another song was released about the Bridgeport mayoral race. This one is critical of Ganim's recent term in office and previous federal conviction.
Joe Grit$ raps his views on the race in hopes of engaging people who might not normally head to the polls. Grit$ doesn't endorse anyone on it, but he does push for change in the mayor's office.
"I'm putting things out there that hopefully people going to listen to take heed, and next week hopefully make their own decision on who they want to vote for. But at least they got they got the information they're probably not going to get through any other channel."
So far, the song has more than 3,000 views online.
As the rappers battle it out with their music, the candidates are fighting for every last vote. Democratic incumbent Mayor Joe Gamin faces Republican John Rodriguez and write-in candidates Sen. Marilyn Moore, Jeff Kohut and Ethan Book.
There is a chance the Bridgeport election could be postponed. A judge is expected to rule Thursday on whether to grant a new Democratic primary following alleged problems with absentee ballots.
