Stamford mall's future up in the air as it goes up for sale

Connecticut residents getting ready for holiday shopping have more choices than ever -- but one mall's future is up in the air.
A large portion of the property that the Stamford Town Center mall sits on is up for sale. The shopping destination is facing more competition as the holiday season nears from the new kid on the block, the SoNo Collection in Norwalk.
Officials discussed the future of the mall at the Government Center Tuesday. The complex has a number of owners -- Taubman's Shopping Center is the one on the market.
"The mall is located right in the heart of downtown and presents a unique opportunity for any individual or company looking to purchase it," says Director of Economic Development Thomas Madden.
Among rumored plans included dorming space for UConn's regional campus, but Madden says that won't be happening. While some want to see the mall stay, others hope for something new in the works.
"They should definitely entertain ideas from all over," says Alex Krauss, of Stamford.
