Popular Westport concessions expected to close doors

Posted: Updated:

The town of Westport sent out a release earlier this week stating Joey's By the Shore owner Joey Romeo will no longer be operating the concessions stand at Compo Beach, as well as the Longshore Pavilion and the Longshore Halfway House.

First Selectman Jim Marpe told News 12 Connecticut that the town has been negotiating with Romeo on his lease, but an agreement could not be reached.

The town says he will not pay the full rent due this year and says he will not fulfill the remaining three years under his lease.

Marpe says Romeo will have an opportunity to bid on a new proposal but expects someone else will open the concessions by the time summer 2020 starts.
