Rabid raccoon bites mother, son at Weston bus stop

A woman at a Weston bus stop had to fight off a rabid raccoon last week when it attacked her son.
The incident occurred on Georgetown Road.
The woman, who asked not to be named, says she saw the raccoon sinking its teeth into her son’s leg. She says she wrestled the animal away, but ended up with bites on her arm, hand and torso.
A short time later, an animal control officer found the raccoon, which tried to bite him on the leg. It was shot and killed.
Both mother and son needed shots since the animal tested positive for rabies.
Weston Animal Control Officer Mark Harper says people in the community should be on alert, since attacks usually come in bunches.
