Residents and shoppers along Greenwich Avenue say there is something missing this holiday season.

For years, a festive display was organized and funded by the town Chamber of Commerce, then Greenwich Green & Clean. But the nonprofit decided last year it just didn't have the budget to light the trees.

Local businesses picked up the slack on their own for 2018, but this year the avenue looks pretty bare.

Mary Hull, of Greenwich Green & Clean, said town officials and business owners will have to work together if they want any sort of decorations this year. Hull said hanging the lights costs around $60,000 and that it's not coming out of the town budget.

"Well, I'm hoping that the chamber and the town will get together, because some of those merchants have to want people to feel good to come to Greenwich Avenue. Because they'll go somewhere else if they don't come here, so it should matter to them," said Hull.

In the meantime, Hull said holiday baskets are still part of Greenwich Green & Clean's mission.
