Police in Bridgeport are teaming up with People's United Bank to make sure residents are not a victim of identity theft this holiday season.
News 12 was at Stop & Shop on Main Street where a crime prevention specialist with the bank and a Bridgeport police officer were putting "Keep an Eye on your Purse" stickers on shopping carts anytime shoppers left their purses unattended.
They also passed out bracelets for shoppers' keys because if a thief steals a purse with keys inside, they have access to more than just your wallet.
People's United Bank says identity theft tends to rise during the holiday season.
They encourage shoppers to keep their purses and wallets on their person at all times.
Anyone who believes they may be a victim of identity theft should call police, their bank and all three credit bureaus.
