New Canaan police officers lauded for efforts aiding man involved in car fire

Two New Canaan police officers are being hailed as heroes for their efforts saving a man involved in a car fire.
On Thursday morning, Sgt. Peter Condos and officer Tom Patten responded to a report of a car on fire on Rosebrook Road. They soon found the car off the road, fully engulfed in flames.
Despite the danger -- the officers ran down embankment toward the vehicle and its driver, who was nearby, and on fire.
The officers used snow and their hands to put out the fire and then provided emergency medical care.
One of the officers was injured, and the driver was taken to a hospital.
In February, the officers will receive the department's Lifesaving Award.
The accident is under investigation.
