A Bridgeport man who recently lost his father is paying special tribute to him this holiday season by helping families in need.
A few weeks ago, 23-year-old Carlos Horton Jr. thought this Christmas was going to be a sad holiday. His father, 43-year-old Carlos Horton Sr., recently had a stroke and passed away.
Horton Jr. says Christmas is "not the same without my dad."
Upon watching News 12 Connecticut's stories that revolve around people like Joe Kaliko of Needs Clearing House, which helps people in distress, Horton Jr. became inspired. He decided he would pay tribute to his father by purchasing presents and donating them to the Bridgeport Rescue Mission, where the children of residents there will receive them on Christmas.
"I want to see other people happy," said Horton Jr. "Not just me or my family happy, so I want to keep continuing this every year if I can--just donating to people that's needy."
Horton Jr. says he knows that his dad is happy seeing him make others happy.
Kaliko says he was honored to be the inspiration for the gift giveaway.
