A family is homeless after a fire tore through their home in New Milford Saturday.
There were about 30 firefighters called in to help put out a large house fire on Candlewood Lake Road North a little before 7 p.m.
When the Water Witch Hose Company Number 2 of New Milford arrived on the scene, they noticed a fully involved structure fire.
The flames from the fire could be seen through most of the Route 7 valley.
New Milford firefighters relied on mutual aid from Northville, Gaylordsville, and Brookfield fire departments to help them battle the blaze for almost two hours.
They had to battle icy conditions in freezing cold temperatures.
Fire Chief James Ferlow says the single-family residence is no longer livable, but that all parties are accounted for and safe.
Police are still investigating the cause of the fire.
