Police: Westport shopping plaza stabbing was ‘random attack’

Posted: Updated:

An 18-year-old had his bond set at $1 million Tuesday in the stabbing of a 33-year-old Greenwich woman at a Westport shopping plaza.

Ellis Tibere appeared in Norwalk court after police say he caused significant injuries during what they deemed as a random attack.

Police say they arrested Tibere Monday on the Sherwood Island connector after reports that he stabbed a woman at the Post Road East shopping plaza.

According to court documents, Tibere admitted to sitting in the parking lot starting at 10 a.m. and, while masked, stabbing the victim in the legs and arms an unknown amount of times around 1 p.m.

Police say the victim was conscious while being transported to the hospital to be treated. There was no word on a motive for the attack.

Tibere’s defense attorney ordered a competency evaluation and asked that his client be placed on suicide watch. His next court hearing is on Jan. 21.
