A new solar power project is paying big dividends for a community center in Stratford.

Sterling House, a nonprofit that serves the youth in the community, installed 231 solar panels. Econ Heating and AC, which installed the technology, says it supply about 85 percent of its total energy.

Sterling House didn't have to pay for the installation. The state-backed Connecticut Green Bank helped get it built, along with hundreds of other sites across the state.

However, big solar savings may come to an end. Currently, customers can "sell" their excess electricity back to the power company. But next year, Connecticut may replace that system with a capped "tariff."

Sterling House's director says their installation was locked-in at a certain rate for the next 20 years.
