Long Island Rail Road officials say that a trespasser on the tracks was struck by a train near Merillon Avenue Sunday.
The incident occurred just before 6 p.m.
It resulted in cancellations and suspended service on several branches, putting travelers across the Island at a standstill.
Passengers on the train tell News 12 they were stuck onboard for more than two hours.
