Posted: Updated:

A person was struck and killed by a train in West Haven Wednesday delaying trains on Metro-North's New Haven line, officials say.

Officials say the person was struck by a train at the West Haven station at 5:50 a.m.

Officials say the train that struck the person was the 5:40 a.m. westbound train from New Haven headed to Grand Central Terminal for 7:41 a.m.

The 5:56 a.m. train from New Haven was delayed between 10 and 15 minutes, according to Metro-North.

Metro-North officials say there were 20 to 30-minute delays for other trains but that everything was running on schedule after 8:30 a.m.

The passengers were off loaded from the train that struck the person, and put on the opposite track for another train.

An Metro-North spokesperson tells News 12  that they are actively investigating the incident.
