Next phase in Shakespeare Theatre property redevelopment underway

Stratford is beginning the next phase in deciding the future of the landmark Shakespeare Theatre.
The town has taken input from over 1,000 residents in regards to what, if anything, will be built on the property after the theater burned down just over a year ago. They even developed a specialized Shakespeare Property Committee to conduct research.
Residents have shown interest in being involved in the process, including attending a town hall Thursday night where they heard how the property committee intends to handle the historic grounds.
Stratford Director of Economic Development Mary Dean says it's important to take everything into account.
"They can take the time to look into and research what the community wanted. And ultimately what came out of that study was a multi-use facility, outdoor venue and improving the property," says Dean.
Stratford's mayor says the town is researching how popular opinions expressed by residents have worked in other communities.
