Thousands of fans are expected to pack Webster Bank Arena this weekend for the state's debut of a newly formed collegiate ice hockey tournament.
All four D1 Hockey teams from the state will face off in a newly created series of games called Connecticut Ice: Collegiate Hockey Tournament.
The four teams are the Quinnipiac Bobcats, UConn Huskies, Yale Bulldogs and the Sacred Heart Pioneers.
Bridgeport city officials say it will be an all-hands-on-deck event for law enforcement as they coordinate security and traffic for the games.
The tournament is expected to bring in business for local restaurants and other establishments.
"There are a number of programs for people of, children of different ages. We have programs for little kids that will be going on, high school, boys and girls’ tournaments. It's a real family event and it's not only benefiting the city of Bridgeport, it actually benefits the region and the state," says City of Bridgeport’s Tom Gill.
Local business owners tell News 12 they have been counting on the influx of customers for months now.
The puck drops Saturday at 4 p.m. when Quinnipiac and UConn face off, and then at 7:30 p.m. when Sacred Heart plays Yale.
On Sunday the winners of each game will play each other before a champion is awarded the CT Ice Trophy.
